Fatal Fire Engulfs Home in Ocala, Resident Killed

by Katherine Murphy / ocalalocal.org

Ocala Fire Rescue responded to a fatal fire at a home in the 2600 block of Northeast First Avenue in Ocala on April 25. The call came in at 11:23 p.m. after a neighbor reported seeing flames at the residence.

Firefighters from Engines 1, 3, and 5, Rescue 3, Tower 1, and Battalion Chiefs 11 and 22 were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the one-story home fully engulfed in flames, with the fire burning through the roof.

Despite efforts to enter the home, deteriorating conditions forced firefighters to withdraw after a powerline affected by the fire fell, blocking access to the water supply. The fire was then fought aggressively from the outside until it was under control.

During a search of the residence, one victim was found by Rescue 3. A secondary search by Tower 1 did not uncover any additional occupants.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall's Office. Ocala Fire Rescue, along with the Prevention Division, Ocala Police Department, and Marion County Fire Rescue, responded to the incident.

Ocala Fire Rescue expressed its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim during this tragic time.
