**Ocala Firefighters Rescue Two Victims from House Fire**
*OCALA, FL.* – On Thursday, October 24, 2024, at approximately 11:10 p.m., Ocala Fire Rescue responded to a residential structure fire located on the 1100 block of NW 9th Ave. Firefighters arrived to find a small, single-story home with heavy smoke and flames coming from the front.
Initially dispatched for an unrelated call, officers from the Ocala Police Department were already on the scene and assisted residents in escaping the smoke-filled house. Hearing cries for help heightened the urgency of the situation.
Firefighters entered the home to conduct search and rescue operations. Within one minute, they evacuated one resident through the front door. They subsequently located a second resident, who was bed-bound, in a rear bedroom adjacent to the fire room. Firefighters successfully removed this individual through a bedroom window, completing the rescue within five minutes.
The fire was contained to the room of origin and was reported under control by 11:18 p.m.
Both rescued residents were conscious and were transported to the hospital as trauma alerts due to smoke and flame exposure. Additionally, three Ocala Police Department officers were taken to the hospital for evaluation after experiencing smoke inhalation; all were released shortly after being evaluated.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
