Indianapolis Urges Residents to Sign Up for Alerts
Officials in Indianapolis are urging residents to sign up for emergency text alerts as severe weather is expected in the coming days. Marion County Emergency Management offers notifications for events including severe thunderstorms, floods, tornado watches or warnings, and other public safety incidents. Alerts are sent via text message, voice message, or email and include information about the end time of the threat.
The City of Indianapolis is aiming to double the number of community members receiving these alerts this year. Residents can register by creating a free account on Smart911, an option that lets subscribers choose from 60 different languages and select the types of emergency alerts they want to receive.
For additional details on emergency preparedness, residents can visit the Marion County Emergency Management website at indy.gov/activity/marion-county-emergency-management. The city also provides an option to sign up for alerts through the Metropolitan Emergency Services Agency by texting MESAINDY to 67283. Further information on alert systems and emergency notifications is available at indy.gov/activity/emergency-alerts-and-notifications.
