Strong Passwords Essential for Online Security Protection

Staff Report / ocalalocal.org

A recent reminder from the Ocala Police Department emphasizes the importance of strong passwords in protecting against cybercrime. Current cybersecurity recommendations suggest that a typical seven-character password, even if it includes a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, symbols, and numbers, can be compromised in minutes by hackers using automated tools. In contrast, a long passphrase consisting of 14 lowercase letters could take approximately 51 years to crack.

The police department advises individuals to use long, unique passwords for each account and recommends using a password manager to generate and store these passwords securely. For further cybersecurity tips, individuals can visit https://tinyurl.com/mr47uc7c.
