Public Archaeology Day at Fort King, October 19

Staff Report / ocalalocal.org

On Saturday, October 19, the Gulf Archaeology Research Institute will host a Public Archaeology Day at Fort King National Historic Landmark and Visitor Center. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is free for all ages. Attendees will have the opportunity to see archaeologists excavating Fort King for artifacts, learn how excavations are conducted, how data is recorded, and how this information contributes to understanding the past.

In addition to Public Archaeology Day, there will be other activities at the location on the same day. A historic homesteading event titled "Witchy Brooms" will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a registration fee of $20 per person. Participants must pre-register, and the activity is open to those age 18 and older.

Later in the day, "Phantoms of the Fort featuring Legends of the Fort" will be held from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. This event is also free and welcomes attendees of all ages.
